Representation for those with penises in the realm of rope bottoming is notably limited. This gap can pose challenges, especially for beginners in rope bondage. However, the silver lining is that a significant majority of bondage techniques are just as effective on bodies with penises as they are on bodies with vaginas. The primary exception is chest harnesses, which are often designed considering breasts. Nonetheless, contrary to some online impressions, there are ample methods to tie the upper body without the presence of large breasts. Japanese Rope Bondage Glossaries

Ebi and Futo and Tsuri - OH MY!

You’ve probably heard the terms “Shibari” and “Kinbaku”. Unless you’re a total purist, these words are used interchangeably to describe Japanese style rope bondage. Shibari means “weaving” or “to tie”, and came into usage when western cultures adopted Japanese rope bondage. Kinbaku means “tight binding” and is the original term.

A lot of the language used in the practice of rope bondage is Japanese, which makes starting out pretty hard, because you don’t even know what to look up. The good news is that there are some great Shibari Glossaries out there to help you get started.

Shibari is one of those skills that’s easy to learn but hard to master, and practice makes permanent - so starting out with good habits will pay off in the long term. If you pick up a bad habit early on, it can take a really long time to unlearn.
